Welcome To My Solo Blog

Welcome to my Glengarry solo blog. Below you will find reflections from my Glengarry three-day solo. You will find video interviews from during and after my solo. You will hear some of my thoughts at night as things were getting dark and a little scary. I will have photos of the things I built and created as well as some of the highlights and hardships.

Enjoy this great journey with me.

There are 3 pages to my blog. Make sure you click "older posts" at the bottom of each page so you see all my entries.

Slides From My Solo

Here are some photos from my solo.

This Is My Solo Site

This photo shows you the location of my solo site. It was situated in the open not far from Lake Yurrunga. I liked this spot because it was open a grassy and had lots of wildlife. One challenge I did find about this area was that it was hot during the day because I did not have much shade.

What Is The Purpose Of Solo?

Well many of you may think it is kind of weird to do a three-day solo. I thought I should tell you why we do this at Glengarry. There are a number of reasons.

For the whole semester we have been hiking with 20 other kids, you never get away from them. Solo is a time to get away and think and try and put together some meaning out of this Glengarry experience.

We had to write a letter home to ourselves which I will receive in one-years time. I had to reflect on what Glengarry had taught me and how I might use this to achieve my future goals.

The Night Approaches: I am a little worried!

It slowly sneaks up on you, the sun is there all day and you keep busy getting your campsite ready and then before you know it the sun is going down below the horizon. You get a feeling of something changing, you get anxious. What is it going to be like. Have I got the courage to be strong even though I am scared? I took this video as the sun was setting.

Reflections After My First Night Alone

I was quite nervous to be on my own camping in the middle of nowhere by myself. My imagination was going wild with possibilities of axe murders to snakes and spiders. I did however surprise myself and felt confident as I went through the night.

My Bush Shelter

During solo we had to construct a bush shelter. I built the frame for a shelter. During the day I made a bed and laid down and read my book and had a sleep. Here it is in the video below.
